The Seahawks wrapped up their week of practice Saturday afternoon before heading east for a Monday night game against the New York Giants. Prior to the team’s departure, Seahawks coach Pete Carroll met with the media and provided injury updates on his team, which will be getting several players back from injuries.
Most notably, Jamal Adams is set to make his 2023 debut more than a year after tearing his quadriceps tendon. He is not listed with a game status, meaning he is ready to play.
“He did great,” Carroll said. “He had a complete week. He was on it.”
Also back after missing last week’s game are cornerback Riq Woolen, guard Phil Haynes and outside linebacker Darrell Taylor.
The Seahawks ruled out two players, cornerback Tre Brown, who suffered a concussion in last weekend’s win over the Panthers, and cornerback Artie Burns, who injured his hamstring in practice this week.
Carroll said they don’t yet know how long Burns might be out, “but we know what he’s got and we’ve just got to wait to see how he responds to the rehab.”
Left tackle Charles Cross and cornerback Coby Bryant are both doubtful with toe injuries, and while Carroll did not rule out the possibility of either playing, he also noted that the upcoming Week 5 bye is a factor in deciding whether or not to give them one more week off to get fully healthy.
Five players are listed as questionable—defensive end Dre’Mont Jones, outside linebacker Derick Hall, tight end Noah Fant, center Evan Brown and tight end Will Dissly—and Carroll sounded optimistic about all of their chances of playing.
Carroll said he expects Fant to play, explaining, “He had a sore knee after the work the other day, so we just rested him.”
Dissly, who missed last week’s game with a shoulder injury is “doing fine,” Carroll said. “He got through all the practice and got the work done, so it looks like he’s ready to go.”
Brown got kneed in the thigh in practice, Carroll explained, but “will be all right.”
Carroll said Hall, “got his work today, practiced today.”
And while Jones did not practice, Carroll said, “Dre’Mont got some field work today, and things are really moving in the right direction. He’s thinking he’s going to play and be available.”
Looking ahead, the Seahawks could be getting receiver Dareke Young back soon after the bye week. Young was placed on injured reserve prior to the opener, meaning he is eligible to return after the bye, and Carroll said, “The goal is he’s ready to go full speed as soon as he’s allowed. We’ll see what happens, but he’s pretty positive about it. He thinks he can get that done.”
In non-injury news, Carroll said veteran tackle Jason Peters could be available should the Seahawks decide to elevate him off the practice squad. The 41-year-old former Pro-Bowl and All-Pro tackle needed time to get into football shape having not been with a team in training camp, but after a few weeks of practice, Carroll said Peters is ready to go should the Seahawks need him.
“He’s close now,” Carroll said. “He’s ready to go. He feels like he could play, so he’s available to us.”
The Giants, meanwhile, will be without starting left tackle Andrew Thomas, who has been ruled out with a hamstring injury, and quite possibly without Pro-Bowl running back Saquon Barkley, who is listed as doubtful due to an ankle injury.
