The Giants Foundation and Gatorade to contribute $2,000 to the football program

East Rutherford, NJ – The New York Giants and Gatorade have selected Mr. Michael Morano of Arlington High School (LaGrangeville, NY) as the Lou Rettino High School Coach of the Week for Week 4 of the 2023 season. The Arlington Admirals are off to an impressive 3-0 start to their 2023 season, and have outscored their first three opponents by a combined margin of 138-49. Their 55-18 victory this past Friday against perennial powerhouse Carmel demonstrates the potential of this year’s Arlington team, as Carmel had outscored the Admirals 169-55 in their previous four combined contests, including a 62-21 outcome last September.

The Lou Rettino High School Football Coach of the Week Award is part of the Giants’ continuing effort to support local high school football programs. The Giants elected to name the award in memory of former Union High School (NJ) coach, Lou Rettino, for his fine commitment to the game of football, his community and the betterment of his athletes’ lives. Each week during the high school football season, the Giants selected one area high school head coach as the Coach of the Week winner. The selection is based on the coach’s continuing commitment towards promoting youth football, developing motivated student-athletes and contributing overall to their community.

In recognition of Coach Morano’s selection as Coach of the Week, a $2,000 check will be granted to the school’s football program from The Giants Foundation and Gatorade. He will also receive a certificate of recognition signed by Giants head coach Brian Daboll, and will be honored at a dinner following the season, as well as a 2024 pre-season home game.

Coach Morano took over as head football coach at Arlington High School in 2016 after serving as an assistant coach at the school for 15 years. He has an impressive career record of 47-19 as head coach in his 8 seasons at the helm. A native of Wynantskill, NY, and a graduate of Marist College, Morano is an English teacher at Arlington High School.

“As an English teacher at Arlington High school coach Morano has developed a program that continues to see its numbers increase,” said Michael Cring, Arlington’s Director of Athletics. “Coach Morano is engaged in the community and works to develop each individual on his team to achieve the best they can in all aspects of their life.”

“I believe in transformational coaching”, said Morano. “Transformational coaches help young people grow into responsible adults, leaving a lasting imprint on one another. Transformational coaches change individual lives and improve their communities by mentoring young men and women in a way that fosters a desire to willingly contribute to their communities. Our program philosophy is centered around this philosophy, establishing and maintaining an environment where participation in athletics leads to heightened levels of connectedness to the Arlington community.”
